David Mabley ; ; David made his way towards the lions, noticing a lone figure by their cage; the only person who seemed content to sit and wait out in the rain. He knew the figure, and knew the hoodie (partially because Drew never bothered to hand it back when she was cold one day and he gave it to her) anywhere. Moving towards her, his own fingers moved to grip the railing next to Drew so their bodies were side-by-side. But not touching, just a content distance apart.
“I didn’t go to the college.” He spoke first, hazel eyes watching the lions dully as they yawned and stretched. Barely doing anything on this cool, lazy, day. David didn’t blame them.

Drew Skyes: Drew flinched, gasping slightly at the surprising presence next to her suddenly, then was even more shocked when she looked over to see that it was David. Quickly, she turned back to look at the lion's den once more and hunched her shoulders as if it would block out the cold. Her cheeks were flushed with embarrassment, and then remorse. He hadn't gone to the college? So caught up in her own thoughts, she looked in the other direction, away from him, too pained to talk. Her wrist was throbbing, reminding her of what she'd done because of how hurt she'd been. And to find out he hadn't even gone? And hadn't even called her? It hurt even worse, making her close her eyes so she could focus on breathing. The rain dripped off of her onto the ground and made the moment even more dreary. How had he even known she was here?
With a sigh she thought, Mom.
Drew scooted a few inches away from him, inhaling a deep breath. Finally after a few moments of silence she spoke up. "What changed your mind?" it was quiet though.

David Mabley ; ; “Your words of wisdom, and you.” David spoke again, looking out as one cub batted his father’s tail. “I told my mother no, well and faked sickness, but I didn’t want to go and didn’t need to visit. I knew it unsettled you, so I did what you said.” He explained quietly, looking down at the peeking white from her his hoodie.
“I’m sorry I made you mad and upset.” Running a hand through his dirty blond hair, the ends sticking up with wetness only to be pounded down by the rain.

Drew Skyes: Swallowing roughly, Drew stepped away from his touch, which was more painful than it seemed. Her heart panged, wanting so badly to be in hi embrace but pride and heart too hurt to do so. "You should have gone," she said rather darkly and quietly, giving him a but of the cold shoulder as she held herself for warmth, the tears still flowing a bit freely but being disguised by the rain still. She'd hurt herself for him, was getting over the idea of them. And now he was back and being all prince charming and shit. But Drew had already broken herself with her own thoughts, over thinking so badly that now there was nothing left.
And the damn lions just yawned and laid down, not like Drew's world was falling apart inside of her.
{ Listening to the song Breathe Me by Sia and having major feels because it kind of goes with Drew and her situation and WOW THE FEELINGS }

David Mabley ; ; “But I didn’t want to go to.” David protested, brows furrowing. He knew and was used to Drew being mad at him. Whether it was him accidentally grabbing the salt and putting it into her coffee after she demanded he made her some in her own house, or because he was spending too much time with the new girl and she was getting jealous—David had been on the bickering end to the actual fighting end of a relationship. However, this was different. She was…broken. Sad. Though Drew tried to hide it, David knew her too well.
Looking the girl over quietly, “are you all right?” David finally asked, but kept his distance.

Drew Skyes: Drew kind of well, snapped, at his comment. Whisking around, her teary eyes met his and she pressed her trembling lips together. "Why are you here? Why do you come back to me even though I'm-I'm-" she motioned to herself and let out a short sob. "This?" the tears fell freely now, her whole face contorted into the sad look of crying. "I don't understand why you even listen to me or like me or...want to even be with me!" she threw her hands up shakily. "I'm nothing, David. I'm worthless and needy and angry all the time and I don't understand why you stay," she spoke through gritted teeth and yet her lips still trembled as the rain dripped off the end of her nose. Her green gaze was broken, sad, and wide, gazing up at him. "Why, David?" she asked quietly, her voice catching in her throat and sprouting more tears. "I wrote you 365 letters. I wrote you everyday for a year (Sorry Notebook moment there)"
"I was finally starting to realize you don't deserve someone like me, David. You don't. You deserve to go to college and to see the world and not be stuck with a depressed and slutty bitch like me," she pointed out at the lions with a wet slap back onto her jean clad thighs, breaking.

David Mabley ; ; “So? We’re different, that doesn’t mean I have to hate you. That doesn’t mean I don’t deserve you. It just means we have to work them out and find common interests.
David’s features softened, “I stay because I actually enjoy your personality, the one you tried to hide, the one that’s the true you. I could even go as far to say I love you.” He smiled kindly, it was small, hesitant, not sure if Drew would drop kick him into the lion cage or just walk away or stay.

Drew Skyes: Drew stood speechless for a second, her fingers curling around the soaking wet line of the sweatshirt she was in and squeezing it so hard her knuckles were white. Her teeth dug into her trembling lip harshly and suddenly she couldn't stand still, she moved back and forth a bit, almost panicky, her face contorted with more tears. "I just-" she said, covering both her cheeks and shuddering in another sob, not looking at him, sort of in a confused stepping dance. Then she was still glancing up at him softly before shuddering out in a whisper, arms dropped to her sides. "I'm scared," it was honest, her purest emotions coming forth to the one boy she tried hiding them from. Because once she put herself completely out there, he could snap her in half if he wanted to, easily. And gosh she was so fucking scared, her whole body shivering from it besides the cold. Tears slipped down her face as a gasp of a breaths shuddered out. "I'm so scared."

David Mabley ; ; Confused, David stepped forward, melting into a small hug. “You don’t have to be, whatever it is, I’ll try and help. I promise.” He whispered, looking down at her emerald eyes.

Drew Skyes: She shuddered a bit, sobs taking control a bit. "You don't understand," she pushed away from him and covered her face angrily with her hands, nails slipped down her wet face in frustration. "I'm scared to love you, David. I can't give you my heart because everyone I've ever done that to had ripped it away from me and I can't have that happen again," trembling lips still shook, gazing up at him through the rain. "I'm already broken," her voice cracked and her eyes looked at the ground, at their close feet and she hugged her arms around her stomach sadly, pressing her mouth tight. "I'm so far gone and you don't understand what that's like," she moved to brush wet hair out of her face shakily, the sleeve of her sweatshirt revealing a bit of her bandage from the day before and hiding the still fresh cuts that littered her wrist.

David Mabley ; ; He noticed the bandage, before looking at Drew directly. “I understand that, but please Drew, if not love then let’s be friends at least,” David tried to reason but was lying. A friendship would drive him crazy. “I won’t leave you alone. I don’t want you to hurt yourself anymore.”

Drew Skyes: Drew laughed ironically, but in reality it was just sad. "Friends? I've never had a friend in my life, David," she said it so broken, so distantly. It didn't really phase her that he brought up hurting herself, she hadn't been careful enough about hiding the bandage. But Drew didn't really care anymore. "And I don't think that could happen for us, anyways. We both know that," she watched him, green gaze pathetically lost.
"The truth is, I'm always alone. And I don't know how you could change that," mouth quivering again, she cried more tears.
Her eyes looked over at the lions den, her eyes almost lifeless and her shoulder rigid. Just two steps and a few feet down and she could be in there, a prey to the most ravenous of creatures. She'd always loved lions because of this, this flaw they had. That they were beautiful and magnetic on the outside, but deadly killers from within. Kind of like Drew, except the only person she was killing was herself from the inside.
Just two steps and a jump.
Drew's gaze went back to David's sadly. "I'm worthless," she told him, taking a step towards the railing.

David Mabley ; ; “Nobody is worthless, everybody is created for a reason and purpose and sometimes it takes time to find it. I’m fairly sure your father and mother loves you, and James would be heartbroken without you. Drew, you may think I’ll abandon you; but your family won’t, they’ll be there for you.” David pleaded, moving ever so slightly forward.
“If not me, think of those who really love you.” He reasoned.

Drew Skyes: She shook her head softly, taking one more step, hip pressing into the railing now. "They can't love something that isn't there," she said simply, tears streaking her face.

David Mabley ; ; “Then stick around.” David spoke, brows furrowed now in frustration; his body moving forward again, towards Drew. Not threateningly, but softly, one hand reaching out for her. “Please. They’ll always love you, family doesn’t abandon family.” His cheeks hinted with flaring red.
“One day I had hoped to be a part of your family. Family dinners, hanging out, having a good time. Helping James, your dad, mother, you. Because, family doesn’t leave each other. I won’t leave you, promise.” David smiled, looking down in shy embarrassment.
