Drew Skyes: Mom had left Dad, kind of like how David had left her? she thought, staring down at the gauze sadly as he expertly wrapped her arm. "So you did it...a lot?" she questioned, curiosity getting the better of her. The tears were still wet on her cheeks, but at least her shoulders were shuddering and the guilt wasn't as bad. Finding out that her dad had actually been a regular, hurting person once was shocking, but made it easier to talk now.

Bastian Skyes ; ; “Mhm…” Bastian hummed, thinking about whether or not. “Yes. Because after I nearly killed myself, your mother and I did break up months later.” He didn’t go on, waiting for his daughter.

Drew Skyes: "Really?" she raised her eyesbrows, looking up at him, intrigued to hear about her dad's past, one he'd never offered up willingly to tell her before. The sting of her wrists wasn't too bad anymore, and the tears had stopped for the most part. Now she just watched, a bit sad for her dad. "Mom hurt you that bad?"

Bastian Skyes ; ; “It was my fault. I may have married your mother, but there was a time where I also liked men,” he explained slowly. Occupying himself with cleaning the sink of blood, hating that he would have to explain this to Lauren; and the fact he’ll probably get confronted also. “And we were partiers, got drunk, and sometimes it’s a bit hard to control urges and temptations. I cheated on your mother, and yes I loved her very much, but she drove me to anger and sadness. I just had to find a relief, but Grandpa Skyes knew about my wrists so I had to hide them. And I did. Every day I was in pain, but so long as I could forget your mother and focus on the pain, it was okay. But I never forgot her and always did love her, even if I thought she hated me and wanted me to burn in hell.” He explained, focusing on the mirror. Bastian Skyes looked older, yes, but he still had youth to him in his mid-thirties.
It made the past come and haunt him, all he would have to do was ruffle his hair like when he was seventeen and take off his glasses. Then he would be the image of his past, one he loved, but hated at the same time.

Drew Skyes: Drew bit her lip, looking down at her knees and pulling her heels over the edge of the counter so she could hug her legs to her chest. "I didn't know that," she admitted because really she didn't know much about her parents besides what she'd learned from her mother's old journals ( of course, those hadn't said anything about her dad's suicide attempt ) and the hints they dropped here and there. And she especially never thought her dad had once liked men, which in some way offended her? Did it? Not really, besides the fact that it somehow made her jealous because you know, she was here because he decided not to be gay. And cheated on mom. But whatever, her dad's past wasn't as bad as Drew's life was becoming, to be honest. "What stopped you, from...you know," she glanced up at him, cradling her arm in her lap, green eyes shining.

Bastian Skyes ; ; “The hope your mother would forgive me. And she did in the end, because…she needed me as much as I needed her.” Bastian explained, leaning on the counter near his daughter. Still staring at the image in the mirror. “The day she found out about my cutting, was the day she told me about you. And then, I knew, I wouldn’t ever let her be alone again.” He told, looking up at Drew with a shy smile. Exposing the life he had in the past, but Bastian Skyes was happy with his family and love life. He wouldn’t trade it for the world, Drew, James, or Lauren.

Drew Skyes: Drew was quiet for a long time, staring at her red painted toe nails. Some wisps of her hair fell into her eyelashes, but she didn't move them, taking a breath of courage. She didn't know what reaction she'd get, but she was wondering.
"Do you ever want to do it again...you know, release the pain?" she asked quietly, almost in a whisper, her eyes filling with more tears as her green orbs found his, chin balancing on her knee cap, the hurt she'd been feeling for the past week showing through her gaze. God she felt sick, and tired, and hurt. She didn't know how to make it better, either, and that drove her crazy.

Bastian Skyes ; ; There was a long pause between answers, Bastian almost hesitating to say. “Yes, not so much anymore; but there were times in my life I wanted to go back and do it all over again.” Bastian spoke softly, sadly, because his daughter were feeling the same feelings he felt numerous times before.
“But, I always talked to someone. And no, it wasn’t always to Lauren, and it wasn’t always about my problems.” Bastian explained slowly. “I would hug you and play with you when you were young to make myself feel better, sometimes I would spend the day with my father, sometimes I would talk to your mother but sometimes just holding her was enough.” He sighed, moving to wrap his arms around Drew.
“If you ever need anything, we’re there for you, you know that? I don’t know what suddenly made you upset, or has been bugging you, but please talk to someone. You mother, Grandpa Skyes, a friend, counselor, me, even James might be helpful to relieve your hurt.” His fingers ran through her hair. “I just don’t want to see you hurt, physically or emotionally.” Holding his baby girl tight, he didn't want to let go.

Drew Skyes: Drew started to cry, feeling instantly guilty all over again for being such a fuck up and letting her dad down. "I'm so sorry," she mumbled into his shoulder, wetting it, holding hims tightly and melting into him. She didn't want to do anything but curl up in his arms and let everything slip away. So Drew slid off the counter, taking his forearms, and sat him down on the floor so she curl up in his lap like a kid again, resting her head on his chest and grabbing one of his hands to play with his fingers, like she used to do as a little girl. Her tears didn't stop, but she didn't say anymore, too tired and hurt to do much else than just curl up in his arms.

Bastian Skyes ; ; “Don’t cry baby.” Bastian held her, burying his nose into her hair, rocking slowly; knowing he should be cleaning the blood because Lauren and James will be home tonight. But not wanting to leave Drew alone, and would willingly let Lauren find them curled on the floor together. Eyes closed, small tears began to form. “Please, Drew, don’t do it again. Your mother and I would rather see ourselves hurt then see your beautiful skin harmed.” Taking the words Lauren said to him when he was seventeen and using them for Drew, Bastian couldn’t help but let another tear fall.

Drew Skyes: Drew sobbed harder, pulling on his shirt a bit. "I'm sorry," she repeated, nose burying into his chest more. "I just don't know how to get rid of the pain," she said honestly this time, shoulders shaking and body curled into her Dad. She didn't care at that point who or what found them, just that she had someone to hold her and that didn't make her feel so alone.

{ Time skip } Drew Skyes: After leading James into the zoo, Drew held onto his hand as they walked through the exhibits, careful not to lose him in the large crowd near the entrance of the facility. She was solemn, having only had her break down with her dad the day before and still remembering it painfully. So when her mom had suggested taking James to the zoo, she'd accepted it earnestly and now here they were, waltzing by the giraffes as James oohed and awed, gnawing on his popcorn she'd bought him. ( Or whatever James was doing lol )
It was about an hour into their visit, after eating lunch at the food court and seeing all the animals James wanted to see, that her mom texted her a message along the lines of WANT JAMES HOME, HERE TO PICK HIM UP TO BUY NEW PIANO HE WANTED. So dully, and sadly, Drew had to drag James out of the zoo again in order to get in his mother's car and drive home.
As they drove off, Drew was about to walk to her own car, when she changed her mind last minute and entered back into the zoo. When she'd walked about a mile across the sloping ups and downs of the trails leading past different animal pens, she followed the signs until they directed her to the lions. Laying lazily in the sun, she pressed up against the glass and gaze down at them, rather sadly. She'd been numb since who knows when, and it didn't help that as she stood there watching her favorite animals, it began to rain softly. Just fucking great, she thought, but didn't move.

David Mabley ; ; He honestly hadn’t gone to see the college, just lying in bed and pretending to be sick; convincing his mother to go visit without him. David looked up from his position on the couch, head lolling to his phone to Mrs. Skyes number and a text from her. She had given it to him as an ‘in case of emergencies’ with his single mother at work and David being alone sometimes.
Drew is at the zoo. It was simple, and made his hazel eyes peak with interest. He was going to wait a day to visit and try and coax her, but David wouldn’t deny the opportunity to see her early. He really did miss Drew, and hated that they fought.
Thankfully the zoo was within walking distance, but David was lightly jogging before the rain began. Moving down the street and through town, walking only for a minute to catch his breath before David was moving again towards the ticket booth.
The rain began to pour as David entered the zoo, hastily making his way around the exhibits, barely pausing to notice them. He’s seen them many times before, and though it would be a waste of ten dollars; finding Drew was worth it.
Blinking back the raindrops, David continued down the paths; the zoo wasn’t big, thankfully.

Drew Skyes: The rain began to pour harder and Drew just sighed, dropping her head and letting the rain pelt her back dully, only popping up her hood to cover up her head before it too was soaked. Her wet hair curled out from the sides of the hoodie, her jeans sticking tightly to her legs from the dampness and her fingers gripping the ramp so tightly that they were white. Her body was littered with goosebumps from the cold wind picking up in the rain, making her shiver slightly but not care. The lions still looked content though it poured, having a tree to lay beneath and moving their lazily. Drew wondered what it would be like if she jumped into the den. Would they eat her? Would they even flinch? Half tempted to try it out, she opted to just gripping the railing even tighter and kicking one leg out behind her with a sad whimper.
And then she began to cry, distinguished by the rain. Yay pity party for one.
