Reece Bolton was full of it, Sabrina was fully aware of this. She almost wanted to laugh at his demeanor towards her. She could see where Brenden got it from, but he hang quite elevated arrogance and pure rage to the perfected art from Reece Bolton exhibited it as. Sabrina could give him credit for that it certainly gave him the sir of control and power he sought. Unfortunately the evidence so far did suggest he needed a lawyer. So the younger Bolton in the room was wrong on one account so far. He shared a lasting look with the other young man. Sabrina couldn't quite place him but there was something familiar in him, perhaps she'd come across his face scanning databases before. Whatever the case, he was sharing quite the loaded look with Brenden. That must be his reasoning for appearance. The two were acquainted, friends from the looks of it, because who invited strangers to your interrogation downtown? Sabrina could feel Landon studying her, but it didn't feel harsh or searching like the people she interviewed most of the time, or the lawyers she spoke to. He was simply curious. Aimlessly letting his eyes study. Strange. Before she had much time to consider, Reece was exiting, shooting a few snide comments as he did. She replied, smiling politely once more " I apologize Mr. Bolton but that is simply not your decision at the moment." She managed to get it all out before Bolton fully exited. But Landon remained momentarily, he spoke again quietly and Sabrina couldn't hold back a tiny chuckle. " why thank you." She allowed herself to return, pretending she couldn't still feel his gaze on her. He seemed even more different then. And different was what made Sabrina even more intrigued normally. She turned back to Brenden and began to speak again, when suddenly another officer rushed in a whispered hurriedly on her ear. New evidence, undeniably Brenden's DNA. Sabrina shook her head " well Mr. Bolton, it appears charged will be filed. She rose, again from her chair, blonde locks flowing her wake as she crossed to Brenden's side and cuffed him, being as respectful of his space as possible " Brenden Bolton you are under arrest for the murder of Marisa Shore. You have the right to remain silent, anything you do say can and will be used against you in a court of law.." And so on. Sabrina's voice was still removed, the same as from the beginning, but if you were looking in her eyes, which she couldn't tell, but suspected a certain blue eyed young man was from the other side of the two way glass, you could see the dead look in her blue green gaze. The fire had been stomped out. This was her going through the motions, blocking out the crazy. And whatever else she felt. A short time passed and Reece left. Sabrina eventually stepped out into the hall again and was surprised to see Landon in the same spot. " hello, sir. I would call you something else but I still don't know your name. I suppose it doesn't matter though. Your friend is gone, which I presume you know. May I ask why you're still here?" She questioned, standing infront of Landon, unable to help the curiosity that was sparking inside her. There was something about the way he looked at her that made Sabrina feel he could see straight into the madness hiding in her head. Yet somehow, it didn't scare her. Strange, still very very strange.

Landon wasn't surprised, just angry. It was more of a slow boil, one that made his bone shake. And Reece Bolton, well, he was extremely angry. He'd hire a thousand lawyers if he could, and he could, just that wouldn't be necessary. He had his usual one, the best one in Boston. And that man was from Magnus Cross. And the man was very good at his job. Brenden hadn't said anything, although his body was tight. He knew who had done it. An Ayres. Vicious people. Bolton was getting damn close to taking them over, the constant power struggle of crime families and the shifter wars. The politics behind it all made Landon's head spin, and he'd be in the game as long as he could remember. Hence why he stayed. He knew something about the Ayres family, an inkling. Just a bit of what his father had scraped up, and with police resources, Landon could find the rest to send most of the Ayres family to jail. When the blonde detective finally noticed him, leaning against the wall, he unfolded himself from the position, his bones cracking slightly as they shifted for the first time in hours. "I think it does matter, Detective King." Landon said. "I'm Landon Cross," he said, holding out his hand. His blue eyes were light, and usually full of amusement. "Son of Magnus Cross? The lawyer? Also representing Brenden Bolton." Landon's anger returned, a sparkle in his eyes. "I know that I'm probably not the best witness, but you're going to lose this trial." Landon said. "You may have DNA evidence, but the Bolton family and Cross family are not short of members that will testify at Brenden's trial that he was home. Including myself." Landon leaned back against the wall, but wasn't finished. "However, I tell you this, because I have a deal." He said, lacing his fingers together in front of him. "Brenden didn't do this. You and I both know that. I've known that boy since I was a child. Our fathers grew up together, and our mothers played dolls together. Hell, my sister married his brother." Landon said. "And he did not do this." He shuddered. "He doesn't have the guts for it, and I know you probably don't want to take my word for it." He said, shrugging again. "But, I guarantee that Brenden will have nightmares about those pictures, because he cares, not because he is a murderer." Landon waved his hand. "Anyway, that is why I wish to help you, and my friend at the same time." He looked down the hall, and noted that they were in fact alone. "Have you heard of the Ayres family? Ayres Bank?" Landon smirked, it a cruel twist on his lips. "Well, I'm sure if you've heard of my family, the Bolton's, then you've heard of them. Like the vicious rumors about our families, the ones about Ayres are correct. Charles Ayres is a notorious crime boss that basically runs the drug ring in Boston, among other things." Landon smirked again. "And you may be wondering how this is relevant to Brenden Bolton. Well, Charles Ayres hates Reece Bolton, because he built a great fortune off of hard-work and cleverness, as well as the death of Charles Ayres's brother. Old case, you probably were a toddler when it happened. Anyway, Bolton didn't get convicted of it because he didn't do it, but Ayres thinks that," Landon paused, watching her face. He never stopped. Something about her was twisted. The way her blue-gray eyes seemed dead. "So, naturally, he'd set up the fall for Reece's most precious son, on a grisly murder." Landon finished. "So, my proposal for you is, take down the Ayres crime family, and get the actual killer." Landon said. "And if both happen to be of Ayres name, then God is good." Landon said, his lips curled in a small smile.

As she spoke, Sabrina found herself examining Landon, he looked about ready to shake apart from all the anger he was holding onto. Contempt seemed to pour straight from him. But she was surprised to notice, it didn't seem to be contempt for her. And the way he held his rage was yet again different from Mr. Bolton. Instead of having it all come out in one forceful burst, taking down whomever was in his pretense, Landon seemed more the type to exude a steady stream of anger, a constant fury continual shoved in the face of who it was directed towards. Right now it wasn't for her, nor for the Bolton's, perhaps he had his own set of demons in his head. That was where Sabrina had been directing most of her anger at these days. She resented the workings of her own mind these days. Looking at him again, the golden haired girl was piecing it together, her thinking was frenzied and quick as it always was these days. Friend of Bolton. Cross. Yes he had the look about him. But she had never dealt with personally. Perhaps a sibling or cousin but never him. She had to smile, even though there was nothing funny about the situation as he spoke. " yes, I've just put that together, Mr. Cross." She agreed. But she found herself looking past him, towards the wall behind him.
There was a yelling, a pounding on the other side. It was Ross, at least that's what the voice whispered, snaking around her head. Abruptly, she shook her head, trying her best to shove it away. The pounding stopped and she looked once more at Landon, unable to hide the moment of fear that flashed in her formerly dead blue green eyes, she looked down to see his hand, which had been there for too long now and shook it, trying to hide the shaking of her fingers, Sabrina pulled back quickly. " sorry, um, sorry." She murmured, still feeling a bit disjointed as she spoke again. Landon immediately launched into why they had the wrong man and how silly the department would look when the Bolton lawyers, coincidentally his family took them to task and proved Brenden's innocence. Then he went into detail as to why it was clearly a framing, perpetrated by the Ayres family. At mention of the case Sabrina nodded, a few lose blonde locks falling across her face " I know it better than you'd think. My father's been in the department for what seems like at least a hundred year." She felt the need to respond even though there was no actually reason, there was something about the way Landon spoke she just found herself drawn into. He'd definitely make a good lawyer, if he ever got into the legitimate side of the Cross family business. Maybe she was a bit fuzzy on personal details but Sabrina was still fairly competent when it came to picking up on things about other people. As he finished Sabrina frowned slightly, not because she hated the idea but because she was just now realizing those blue eyes hadn't ever left her face. Not once. Well that was unsettling. " Mr. Cross" she made a point, no matter what the age, to always refer to people she dealt with her with no first names. It always felt too personal. And looking into every detail of their crime or checking their background, felt personal enough. She felt like if she did anything to get closer to these people she'd never be able to find her way back to herself, to exactly who Sabrina King was. She had a hard enough time keeping track when not surrounded by smugglers and killers.
" As much as I appreciate your suggestion, I have a few things to note. I'm not sure who informed you about the DNA evidence but that is only the beginning of what we've dug up. And it's been less than 48 hours since the discovery of the body. Secondly, past this I feel comfortable speaking to someone who may, legally or not, be involved in the defense. Just to make myself clear. And as for your offer, no matter what I believe or know, I'm not in a position to accept. I'd be happy to let you speak to one of my superiors. If that's all, good night Mr. Cross." Sabrina let it all out at once, the dead look and sound returning in both her voice and gaze. Going through motions, it was boring but safer. If she didn't say how she felt there was no way the crazy could come spewing out alongside her thoughts. Sighing, Sabrina turned and started walking away. This is it Sabrina, this is the chance you know it's not Brenden. Do you want more innocent blood on your hands? The voices taunted her as she made her way down the hall. She tried to repeat her words, block them out. But she couldn't get through it before they interrupted again, they kept blaming her, getting incessantly louder and louder. Crying out in anger, it was her fault Hobbes had killed Ross. And whatever was going on with Brenden and the Ayres family was bout to be her fault as well. She paused and turned around. Landon was still watching her from where he had stood originally.
Sighing, Sabrina walked back to him quickly, her tone finally losing it's calm removed edge, replaced by a slightly out of breath frenzied sort of tone. The crazy was leaking in, she hadn't taken any pills in a few hours. Hopefully he couldn't tell. "I swear to god, if this is some sick ploy. It'll be the end of it for all of you, but okay. I'm listening. Tell me how to take the bastards down. Because Brenden didn't do this. And they'll crucify him anyway, because that's how this works. The wrong people end up dead." It was only when she finished, Sabrina realized she was shaking, and pacing. She turned to look at Landon again, but he looked faded, like Brenden earlier. Instead she saw her Ross's face staring back at her. Whoever was playing with her head like this would be pleased to know, she was starting to crack a tiny bit. Sabrina blinked forcefully, trying to clear her vision. After a few times it eventually worked, and Landon was standing in front of her again. The flash of terror he'd have been able to see earlier was nothing compared to the pure fear playing out in her stormy eyes, like she had seen a ghost. Because she had, but how was he to know that.

Landon had felt a surge of anger. Didn't she understand? Brenden wasn't culprit here, he was the victim! The Ayres would do anything to see Bolton collapse. Metaphorically and literally. Boston would collapse if Bolton Steel Company was found to faulty steel. The entire city was built on Reece Bolton’s steel. But not only that, people would die. More and more to put all of the Bolton family behind bars, starting with Reece Bolton’s youngest son. Landon didn’t have the resources to take down the Ayres. Now that Brenden was without Bolton’s protection, it would only be a matter of time before Brenden ended up dead by one of the many associates.
And then war. It stirred at the edges of the city. The Cross family would obviously back the Bolton’s, and the Kennedy’s would flock to the ever protective shield of the Ayres. Boston would be the ground for a raging war between the shifters. No mundane could even dream of stopping it. Even now, if they did manage to save Landon’s best friend, the war would still begin. Reece swore he would not stop until all of the Ayres family was flayed alive and screaming in the halls of his mansion. No one touched the Bolton family, unless you shook it to the core.
But when Sabrina stood in front of him, she looked shaken. As if she’d seen a ghost. And then she echoed his thoughts. His lips pressed into a thin line. “Oh I know, Detective.” He said. “I’ve played this game for a while.” His voice was dark, hinting at something deeper. “It isn’t safe here.” He said, “To discuss such important matters,” He leaned close to her, blue eyes shocks of electricity. “Care to join me for coffee?” The wolf asked, tilting his head to the side. He pushed his hands into the pockets of his faded jeans, relaxing back.
His anger was pinned back, although still a glitter of fear lingered in his eyes. He couldn’t lose Brenden. None of them could. He curled his fingers around the hard drive in his pocket. It had evidence, linking Ayres to a bunch of murders that put one of the other families away, as well as a couple leads to the drug ring the Ayres family had going. Landon didn’t show her just yet, letting his fingers uncurl from it, and he reached up, looping his fingers over his two overlapping necklaces. The one was an antique crucifix, the wood of it worn smooth and the silver Jesus dinged up from years of use. The other was a black metal wolf, wrapped in a similar silver outline like that of Brenden’s raven necklace.

Mercifully Landon didn't say anything about what she was sure he'd seen. He hadn't stopped watching her since they'd met, so him not noticing something she knew was that blatantly obvious didn't seem likely. Today was one of her more off days since she'd gotten home. And naturally it had to be when she was surrounded by a bunch of crime family members. He seemed a tiny bit smug seeing her once more, which wasn't all that surprising. She had technically come slinking back. But there was something grim in Landon's tone that inspired curiosity and a little bit of concern in Sabrina. There was something in his eyes that said he'd been corrupted by his business just as much as the Force had twisted her. She started trying to figure out just exactly what story he was holding behind his gaze. She was taken off of the track by Landon speaking again. Sabrina glanced up, listening carefully as he tried to sway her into leaving. Maybe he didn't feel safe here, but surrounded by cops was essentially the only place she felt safe nowadays. Even at home sleeping next to Bryan she didn't feel totally secure. And he had been an officer for years. There was another young man in her face currently. She blinked and safe Landon much closer than he had been before. Part of her wanted to step back, but she'd been dealing with people like him long enough to know they took that as a sign of submission, of fear, and Landon wasn't the person in the room Sabrina was afraid of, that award went to herself. Sabrina stood her ground and studied his face for a moment before replying. "Right, because a coffee shop in Boston in the middle of the night is definitely more secure than a police department facility." Sabrina quipped, keeping her voice completely serious. " but when making deals with devils...." She trailed off meeting his gaze once more. Sabrina was surprised to find a fear in his typically confident blue gaze. Not saying anything Sabrina turned again and glanced over her shoulder, blonde locks swishing softly behind her " are you coming?' She asked, then not waiting for a response turned back around and started walking away. Her superiors were going to give her hell tomorrow morning, as was Bryan. He had promised to wait up for her. She could see a figure but the end of the hall, Ross, but he was smiling, for once he wasn't angry with her. Maybe that meant there was something about getting involved with Landon and this whole mess with the city gangs that was the right choice. Or maybe he was smiling because he knew she was walking right into her own death. Either way Sabrina knew it had to be something better than this.
