Shaya sighed, but nodded. "Yeah, I'll be alright," she told her mate, giving him a quick kiss before she stood from the piano bench, heading towards the center of the living room. Remy had retreated upstairs a few moments before, so the emotional intensity of the room had dulled a bit. She was curious to know what Roman was being called away for, but didn't want to intrude. It wasn't her business - yet.
Baying, always the baying. The sound was distinct; the cacophony of many canines howling and barking at once. The sound following her was a bit different; the snarls were deeper, made from larger beasts; the growls were dark, clearly intent on her death. The thudding of dozens of paws on the hard ground echoed around her, driving fear and worry into her heart. The hot breath of her pursuers brushed along her tail and hind legs, snapping teeth promising pain and sorrow and grief should they get a hold of her. Far above, the sharp eyes of a lone red-tailed hawk gliding through the air watched as a massive black cat fled, a pack of hellhounds at her heels.
The wolf-shifters had found their next victim.

Remy knew Roman had departed. Either mother had called Roman back, or Jack had had another episode. Or something else entirely. He glanced out the window, feeling a bit bored at the moment. For the thousandth time he wished he could have his mate back. He didn’t really want to go down stairs and chat with Shaya, so he slipped the window open, climbing out of it and dropping gracefully to the bottom. The instant his human feet hit the ground, his body rippled and instead of a man was a beautiful tiger. Even if he was a fraternal twin of Roman in human form, his tiger form was nearly identical to his brother. An untrained eye would assume it was Roman, not Remington. Especially since Remy was supposed to be dead. He moved quickly through the woods, silent and sticking to the shadows. He covered a large distance, within the tiger territory. But then his nostrils flared a scent. Wolves. And not just Shaya. Her scent was a bit sweeter, a bit more human due to her inability to shift. This was just pure wet dog and it made Remy lash his tail in disgust. The thing was, he could hear them crashing through his forest, moving quickly after another vibe. It was almost instinctive, moving quick through the trees until he came to run alongside the wolves after whatever unfortunate prey. However, they were on tiger lands and that was not allowed. Remy picked up speed, moving ahead of the wolves. He veered into the path of the wolves, tail lashing. He skidded to a stop, slamming into the head wolf head on.

The black cat darted to the right suddenly, attempting to throw the wolves off of her trail. The lead wolf managed to swing his head around, sinking his teeth into the cat's right hind leg. The cry of pain from the feline was heart-wrenching, but adrenaline kept her body from recognizing the agony. Instinctively, she turned to kick and claw her way free, but a blur of orange and black slammed into the head wolf, tearing his teeth from her leg. She didn't stick around to thank her rescuer; instead, the black cat - a black leopard, to be exact - scooped herself off of the ground and began to hobble away at as fast a pace as she could muster.
The head wolf's yelp startled the pack, causing them to all skid to a stop. Snarling, the leader of the pack swung his attention to the tiger, ears pinned, lips curled over gleaming teeth. His fur was a sort of boring gray, splashed here and there with a muddy brown, but he was large, he was fast, and he was strong. Two or three of the pack broke away, chasing after their original prey, while the other four focused intently on Remy, growling and snarling and snapping their teeth.

Remy moved sharply to the left, and raked his claws over one of the outer wolves’ flanks, sliding into the shadows. He took little snaps and hits at the wolves, making them all get turned around and slowly bleeding. He decided to take off towards the injured shifter, knowing she wouldn’t make it very far. He sprinted through the greenery, and heard howls from the other wolves as they gave chase. He could smell the other shifter. A woman, black leopard. He caught up with the other wolves, but he lagged behind. They seemed to be enjoying the chase, watching the other animal lag and grow weaker. He growled, leaping forward and catching the tail and rear of one of the wolves, yanking the shifter to the ground. His teeth wrapped around the tail, his paw slamming into the wolf’s side. He let go only when it yelped. The other two skidded to a stop, turning around to help their fallen companion, and circled around the tiger, finding him to be a much better prey. The other wolves from the other clearing gathered as well, and Remy found himself in the center of a pack of wolves. Great.

In the commotion, the black leopard had slipped away, limping fiercely towards freedom. Pain throbbed through her body, originating from the massive bite wound in her hindquarter. She slammed to a stop suddenly, a fierce growl rumbling in her throat. Guilt nagged at her; she'd left that tiger shifter to die, even after he saved her from that damn wolf. Shaking herself, the black leopard padded back and forth for a second, before spinning around and loping lightly towards the wolves. Adrenaline coursed in her veins, dulling the pain, giving her strength as she descended upon the wolves like an avenging angel, silent as a shadow. The cat's claws sank into the flank of one of the wolves, jaws clamping around its muzzle before it could even blink. Anger and hatred and pain fueled the cat's strength. Just like that, she went feral, her animalistic half surging forward to take control.

Remy flattened his ears. The wolves were advancing. He'd take out the one he'd first ran into first. He lunged towards that wolf and snapped his jaws around the wolves throat. They tumbled to the ground, the wolf kicking at the tiger, but Remy kept a grip. But another wolf snapped out of the trance and attacked, leaping onto Remy and raking over his shoulders, forcing Remy to let go. He rolled away, finding another wolf trying to bite, but he lurched forward, finding another wolf. He growled, shoving that one over and biting into the throat of that one. Everything was blurring. Just a fit of paws and claws and teeth. By the time the mostly injured wolves parted, Remy was standing next to the black leopard watching the wolves. The large one came forward and bared his teeth. The tiger snarled, blood leaking from the wounds on his body, and he felt exhausted.

The black cat hissed, tail lashing back and forth. She was much smaller than the tiger, but clearly more agile; her step was quick, her movements smooth, her fighting graceful. In a blur, she lunged forward and swatted once large paw at the wolf, darting back out of reach. Her leg ached fiercely, but in the current battle for her life, she ignored it, focusing instead on taking out her enemy. The cat saw the tiger as an ally - for now. Having gone feral, she was likely to attack anything within reach. Her human half fought to gain control again, but her cat ignored it, finding the situation too dangerous to see the human's attempts as anything but annoying.

Remy let his pain and grief wash away. His vision seemed red as he moved, slashing at the wolves as they gathered in a half circle, trying to push them back. But Remy didn’t give up ground, just pushed the wolves back along with the black cat. He didn’t look at her, his tiger thrumming and a tremendous amount of heat being expelled from him, as adrenaline pumped through his veins, making his temperature sky-rocket. His big paws took swipes at the wolves, pushing them back and drawing blood. Slowly, though, he’d eventually slowdown from his size and wounds, but for right now, he felt invincible. The best he’d felt in years.

The wolves finally retreated, their howls and snarls echoing through the woods as they disappeared into the surrounding trees, presumably to go lick their wounds and plot revenge. Without warning, the black cat spun on the tiger, snarling, lips curled over gleaming teeth. The feral cat now saw her savior as a threat, though her human side was pushing to the forefront. The cat's yellow-green eyes flashed an amber color for a moment, before fading away. Still obviously tense and wary, the leopard unfolded herself, watching Remy with a nervous gaze. Her leg ached, the black fur slick with blood and saliva and foam. She held the leg off the ground gingerly, flattening her ears.

The tiger watched canines retreat before moving to look at the black cat. He stared at her, eyes unexplainable and like an abyss of colors, reflecting the forest. He flattened his ears, lips curled back. She was showing aggression. He moved backward, stumbling a bit as a long gash on his shoulder seemed to hold him down. His rush slowly died and he wanted to be human again, but he didn't dare. The leopard could know who he was, and Remy could not allow that. He stared at her, waiting for her move. He then grunted a bit, and was forced to sit as his shoulder burned from the three jagged scratches.
