When she had done it, Juliet really hadn't been thinking much, if at all, about putting her hand in kit's. She had wanted to, so she did. That was how the dirty blonde haired girl's thought process tended to be. Maybe that seemed a bit selfish, but growing up with Harold Hunter for a father, Juliet didn't have much perspective on selfishness. She was the daughter of a felon and embezzlers after all. Kit didn't pull away, which, though she didn't say anything, the sky eyed girl was grateful for. It was strange, she always felt cold, but touching him Juliet felt warm for the first time. The fire he started in her chest leaked through her whole slender ice filled frame till she was burning like the comfortable heat from an open flame nearby. And just like that, as they reached the jeep, Juliet went cold again. He had let go. In the car kit didn't speak. She didn't mind, just sat in the passenger seat, curled up on her right side, pale cheek pressed again the glass of the window. Her breath slowly fogging up the pane with each quiet exhalation. Juliet watched the snowy world outside pass by as she sat back in her seat. Her hand lingered palm up by her side, as though her fingers felt lost without kit's to cling on to. All of a sudden the police station came into view like some large fortress in the nighttime. The first words that broke their fragile silence came from kit. He was upset. The white Mercedes parked out front. His father? It made him worried and angry enough to be. When she heard him exiting, Juliet followed quickly, just a few steps behind him. But kit waited, his tall frame casting a large dark shadow on the already shaded snow. Like some large wild animal in the wilds at night. Before Juliet had a chance to do anything, she found herself flooded with a sudden warmth once more, she looked down. Sky blue gaze grazed over her hand now wrapped in kit's once more. Juliet almost smiled at the sight. Almost. As they stepped out of the winter evening and into the station, Juliet was assaulted by a new heat. But this was the burning obnoxious artificial warmth from the police station's heating system. She preferred kit. Immediately a small huddle of sharply people came into view. All beautiful. The Belaqua's. With the same fascination a small child might survey a set of exotic creatures on their first visit to a zoo, Juliet inspected the bunch of them, luminous sky blue eyes flashing with curiosity. So this was them. Too soon, the warmth left again as kit was pulled away from her into a hug. This had to be Dakota, as became obvious in the moments that followed when kit addressed her. A few words later, they finally became aware of her presence. Juliet shifted from one foot to the other in a small act of discomfort. Of course, Dakota first tried to ask kit. But before he said anything Juliet became acutely aware of two of his other siblings heading over. And they were staring. Who was she....that was a good question. They weren't friends. But they weren't random acquaintances either. Because who brought random acquaintances with you to bail your sister out of jail? After a moment's pause. Juliet tried something she often didn't, being friendly. Giving Dakota the smallest, essentially invisible, hint of a smile, Juliet spoke softly, reclaiming kit's hand in the process. " Juliet. You must be Dakota." And that was that. No last name, no reason for, if you didn't know them, clinging to her half brother's hand, a first name. That was all Dakota got. In part, because Juliet didn't know what else to say. Kit and her, at least together, weren't easy in any way. That included definition.

Kit glanced over Dakota's shoulder, but his eyes flickered to his half-sister as she gazed down at Juliet. Her green eyes flickering, unreadable. "Yeah, and this is our sister, Violet." The other girl stared at Juliet, and didn't offer her hand. She smiled, ever so slightly, but did not seem as friendly. "And our brother, Richard." Dakota seemed to step up, since Kit seemed to be tongue tied at the moment. They seemed to hover, awaiting the moment when the father came over. And so he did. The air seemed to turn frigid and Kit's fingers tightened against Juliet's, trembling within her grasp. And for a moment, his heart pounded. "Kristopher." Sean Belaqua's piercing green eyes pinned his son to the spot. "Why are you here?" His voice was as frosty as the winter. Kit lifted his chin to open his mouth when Dakota stepped between them. "I called him, Daddy. I didn't think y'all would come." Sean narrowed his eyes. "Of course I would, baby girl." Dakota's mouth quirked into a frown. "You didn't last time. Kit did." Her voice was a bit whiny right now, trying to avert her father's attention. It worked, but rather his cold gaze was turned onto Juliet. "And who is this?" He tilted his head, like a wolf surveying his prey. "Juliet." Dakota piped up. "Obviously a friend of Kit's." Richard scoffed softly. "You have a friend, Kit? You didn't just hire her?" He seemed to be mocking Kit, and his half-brothers cheeks turned a bit red. Thankfully, the Mrs. Belaqua was not here. Kit turned back to Dakota. "You need anything else?" He gritted out, and Dakota looked a bit sorry, and she shook her head. "No, but thanks for coming, both of you," Her smile was genuine, and then she turned and slapped Richard on the cheek. "Shut the fuck, Richie." And Sean's face seemed to turn purple. "Language Dakota! You're sister is here and you are in public, young lady." Dakota rolled her eyes. "I'm not a lady. Obviously." She shrugged, and pouted, but she'd pulled the attention away from Kit and Juliet, even if Kit was still trembling violently in his fingers, hence why his other hand was shoved deep into his jacket pocket.

Juliet smiled internally taking note of Dakota's reaction to her introduction. So what if the green eyed girl wasnt friendly. Juliet wasn't sure if she wanted to be friends. Hell the dirty blonde haired girl didn't even know if she wanted to be friends with kit, let alone any of his siblings, particularly one that had just been bailed out. Juliet didn't look away or break eye contact, her sky blue eyes piercing each of the siblings in turn as she nodded stiff hello's to them all. Richard, she had met before though never directly. Juliet hadn't liked him all that much then. She didn't particularly now either. All of a sudden the temperature in the small police station dropped at least 20 degrees. Feeling the nerves radiating from kit, Juliet clasped his hand tightly, her place knuckles turning white as she held onto him. The voice was booming. Intimidating. It was interesting, Sean Belaqua was also a bully, just like her father. But he relied on fear while her father had always relied on charm. They were both pompous jerks. Juliet, in order to survive, had established a very good instinct especially when it came to people. And this man made her sick to her stomach, the fact that he made kit so anxious made Juliet angry. The little lone wolf had a protective side, particularly when it came to her paramour and possible friend. It was interesting to see Dakota play her father. Try to appease him. Juliet did see Dakota cared about protecting kit. Hearing her name, Juliet glanced up. Her sky blue eyes were now full of ice, she looked almost defiantly at the Belaqua patriarch. She refused to be afraid of him. Richard's comment was biting and Juliet smiled, very subtly when no one was looking, when Dakota slapped him. Good. He deserved that, she probably would've done it if Dakota hadn't. But she had taken the attention off of her and kit, giving Juliet time to help him. While the others clustered around Dakota and Richard, looking at the bright red mark on the older male's face, Juliet turned to kit. The ice melted from her eyes, with her other hand she quickly, so as not to arose attention, brushed her thumb across his cheek, looking intently into his dark eyes. Drawing her hand back Juliet spoke softly. " she's fine. But you need to breathe. I'm here with you. Hold onto me. He can't hurt you right now" she murmured, her voice low and reassuring. Coming from someone else the words would've sounded condescending and meaningless. But from the icy girl, they were totally sincere. With that she turned away, but squeezed his hand hard, not showing any sign of ever letting go.

Kit felt like his fingers were melting in her fingers, like their hands would be forever molded together. He was grateful for her words, and his eyes lifted from her blue ones to find that Violet's eyes were on them, blinking slowly and softly, like a small deer. She nodded slowly, before turning away. Kit took a deep breath, trying to control his breathing as his father turned his icy gaze upon his bastard son. His wife had bitched enough that Sean Belaqua would rather keep his wife happy than his own flesh and blood, even if it was his father's fault he'd been born. The anger made Kit's flush and he glared back at his father. Dakota pulled her coat heavily around her and stepped in front of the glaring match between the two Belaqua men. "I'm starving, can we please go out to eat? As a family?" Her voice was wavering at the family bit. The air seemed to tense for a moment. "I'm in, who wouldn't love more family drama in public." Richard's voice cut through like a knife, sardonic and mocking. Kit shook his head. "No, I should get Juliet home." He said, voice quiet. Dakota looked at him, and then to Juliet, her eyes seemingly pleading.

Juliet felt warm all over again, with kit's hand clasped tightly in her own. Thankfully her words had helped and kit managed to stop shaking. Hearing Dakota speak up, Juliet turned and looked up at the Belaqua sibling. At the word family Juliet almost scoffed, but she resisted. These people didn't seem like the go out to dinner type. Which became evident in Richards sardonic bitter tone as he spoke up in reply. Naturally, kit recoiled from the offer, the bastard insisted that he needed to take her home. Home. No really, he'd just be taking her back to some silly empty house with her silly empty mother. It wasn't much of a home. Plus, though the sky eyed girl would never say it out loud, she didn't want to be apart from him. With kit beside her, Juliet felt strong. Safe. Full of fire. If she had to go home, that fire would die. And the ice would return, creep over her until Juliet was frozen solid once again, from the inside out. That, coupled with the desperately pleading look in Dakota's gaze made Juliet shake her head in disagreement with kit. Dirty blonde locks fell across her face, throwing her pale features into shade. " it's alright, it's not like anyone's waiting for me. Besides I'm starving."

Kit glanced at Juliet, hoping she'd nod. He didn't really want her to leave. He glanced at Dakota, watching her eyes light up. Kit guessed that Dakota just wanted to go to interrogate Juliet, but he'd like to see her try. Sean sighed, glancing down at his daughter and nodding slowly. "Fine, we'll go. The usual place, Kristopher." His voice was cold in response to Kit, glaring at his bastard son, before turning and stalking out of the station, the three Belaqua children following after him like a band of sullen ducklings. Dakota waved at Kit and Juliet, her eccentric personality back in full swing, as if she'd been jolted with adrenaline. Violet walked stiffly, like their was a stick shoved up her ass, with her head held high and each step delicate and precise. Richard had a swag about him, walking like he had all the attention, and he did. Kit noticed people within the station were still staring, so Kit gently tugged on Juliet's hand and practically dragged her away from the place of scrutiny out into the wintery night. The expensive cars were already started up by the time Kit was walking with Juliet to his own black truck, and he opened the door for her, not quite ready to let go of her hand. "I hope you're ready for one of the shittiest dinners of your life." He muttered, squeezing her hand, stilling standing in the snow, not quite sure how to let go of her yet.

Surprisingly kit didn't seem out off by the fact Juliet had changed their plans. Maybe he was hiding how much he wanted to keep her around too. Juliet hated how happy it made her to consider that. Dakota seemed thrilled, Juliet was not looking forward to the attempted interrogation she knew was about to occur. But still, it would give her a chance to figure out just what the rest of kit's family was all about. Registering everyone beginning to move out of the station, Juliet allowed kit to pull her along gently. Glad to be leaving the stares behind. Everything about the Belaqua clan was interesting in some way, even the way they left a building, it would've been amusing if things weren't so screwed up. Soon enough they were back at kit's truck. Kit opened the door, but she made no move to enter, nowhere near ready to let go. The dark haired bastard seemed like he couldn't quite come to terms with the idea yet either. He stalled for a moment, making small talk about what a hell she was in for. Juliet let the barest hint of a smile touch her lips for a moment, before it faded. The girl nodded, snowflakes coating her think eyelashes as she moved. Looking back at him, Juliet found herself awestruck for that one small moment. Kit was beautiful, stark dark contrast against the bright white snow surrounding them. He made her warm, despite how many degrees below zero her core temperature always seemed to remain. In one move, she tugged her hand gently out of his to bring up against his cold cheek. Leaning in for a brief moment, Juliet brought her lips to kit's kissing him tenderly for just a second, but that second felt like it lasted a much longer time. Juliet pulled back slowly after a moment, staring intently at kit for a minute, their faces only a few inches apart even now, her sky eyes brilliant with light as she then lowered her gaze and turned, settling herself in the truck without a second look.

Kit stared down at her, she seemed frozen, like a Queen of Ice, her hair crystallized with diamond like jewels of ivory snow, laying on the strands like a veil. Her eyes were so brilliantly blue, bright against the soft rosy glow of her cheeks. Then they closed, fluttering with snowflakes that covered her lips and mouth, until their lips connected and heat soared around them. For a brief second, his fingers tangled in her long hair, fingers growing cold as the snow curled around his fingers. Her fingers were searing against his cold cheek, and then it was broken, the tender moment between Winter Girl and Ice King before she got in the truck and he was left without the warmth of her. He got in the car, put his hands and the wheel and stopped. Not quite ready to actually go to the restaurant yet.

Juliet had come extremely close to letting herself get wrapped up in the moment. Hell, she was so powerless to resist feeling when it came to kit, she probably would've been okay ending up making out with him lay in the snow in the police station parking lot. But Juliet hadn't let things get that far. Kit soon followed her lead and got into the car. Yet, he made no move to follow his family to the restaurant. Frowning, Juliet sat back silently in her seat. She didn't want to talk right now. But kit seemed to want to, either that or he had suddenly forgotten how to drive. But there was something. Sighing softly Juliet shifted in her seat to face him and slipped her hand on top of the one of his that was closest. " kit" she murmured quietly in the dead silence of the truck " what is it?"

Kit's mouth felt dry, words unable to surface for a moment. Then her fingers slipped into his, and he felt a little bit safer. A little warmer. "Ah," He stammered trying to find the right words to answer her question. "Um, my family sucks." He murmured. "And I really don't like being with them." He murmured. "Which sounds like a shitty thing to say, but you saw them. They can't stop bickering, or being cold, and they can't function like an actual family, especially out in public. And, and," He trailed off, taking a shaky breath. He'd already said too much, and he forced his mouth shut. "And someone is probably going to have a meltdown. You'll get to meet Mrs. Belaqua, who is even more frigid than Sean. Richard will be a dick, Violet will probably sit like stony silence like she's just a perfect little porcelain doll, and Dakota will continue to scream and rebel." He sighed, leaning his forehead onto the wheel. "It happens every single time and somehow every family meltdown is my fault, like I'm the reason why they are like this, when I have nothing to do with it. Richard is a slutty, cocky whore because he wants to be, and I don't care if he likes boys and girls. Dakota just wants to have sex and attention, and I just don't want her to end up ruining her life. Violet, I don't even know, I don't think she wants to be in the family anymore, and yet, of course, she's Mommy's favorite." His voice cracked and he stopped abruptly, closing his eyes and sighing heavily.

Suddenly, it all came out in a rush. Kit was spilling his guts to her. Juliet was terrified. What was she suppose to say? She cared about kit. Probably more than anyone else. But that didn't mean empathy and the ability to openly discuss how she felt suddenly came naturally to the sky eyed girl. Juliet wanted to be good at this. For kit. Because he meant something....something important to her. But she wasn't sure she could be. And that was petrifying. For a while, after kit stopped talking, Juliet didn't speak. You could hear the sound of their breathing, almost even the insanely quick pounding of her heart, that's how little sound passed in the frozen truck. All she could manage was to squeeze kit's hand tightly against her. She wished that was enough, her just holding onto him. But it wasn't. It never was. Fighting the fear Juliet struggled to find what she was supposed to say. But suddenly...it occurred the dirty blonde haired young girl. There was no 'supposed to'. When it came to the two of them, they had never been about 'supposed to'. Screw 'supposed to' to hell with it. Finally Juliet spoke up, as she did so, she reached out, placing a trembling snow flecked hand against his cheek. " first of all it's. Its not your fault. If they can't see or understand that...then screw them. It's not fair that they get to pretend they're victims and your some monster. But it's never fair. It's not fair that my little sister lives with my grandmother. It's not fair I don't have anything to go home to. It's not fair that all my mother cares about is the man who ruined everything. But that's how it is. So I don't care how much this dinner sucks. Because I'm here. And you're here. And we've gotten through with less than that." As she spoke Juliet's voice went through motions, first angry then scared then wavering so much you could barely make out what she was saying. But her eyes said it all, so did the tears her snowflaked lashes were trying desperately to keep at bay. Still terrified she had messed up, that kit would suddenly decide he had made a mistake in letting her hear him, Juliet leaned in and kissed him once more, holding tightly onto kit. Her pale cold thin fingers tangled in his dark curls as she pressed herself against him. All of the desperation, the vulnerability, the feeling she had spent forever trying to restrain was on her lips, tasting of salt from the tears she had failed to hold back. She was just some broken little girl, holding onto the one thing that made her warm.
