"Did you live in the same place for your whole life before coming here?" Rose asked, knowing that a move like that, at least for her, would be hard no matter how excited she would be at the thought of something new. "Oh and welcome to Lakeview by the way.. I don't think I said that earlier." she smiled at him a bit embarrassedly as she tucked a lock of blonde hair behind her ear. The whole southern courtesy thing had never seemed to rub off on her, even though she'd lived there for so long.
Krasnoyarsk. she repeated the name slowly in her mind, utterly failing at the pronunciation. At least she hadn't tried it out loud. "What's it like their?" she asked. Her tone had become wistful and held a bit of longing to it. Not for Russia in particular, though she would have loved for the chance to be able to go there, but more for the thought of a different place, new experiences.
Without realizing it, Rose had gone from being just curious about the shiny new boy, to actually wanting to get to know Sasha and what his life had been like before now. What were his favorite foods, favorite color? What sports did he play, as it was obvious he had to do something to earn a muscular body like that. It was sort of strange for her.

Sasha paused. He nodded. "Pretty much. My mom, my aunt, and my cousins all lived together. Our dads were in the military, and moved around a lot." He smiled slightly, eyes growing slightly wistful. He looked out over the water. He quickly moved along, rather not talking about why he'd moved away. If asked, he'd have to lie, or at least tell a vague truth. Which either sparked anger or more curiosity. So he moved on quickly. "It's a beautiful place. We have this river that runs through it, and mountains, and big shady trees. And all these old buildings, it's really an interesting place to grow up." he laughed, it slight obnoxious. His lips curled up into a genuine smile.
He looked at her, away from the water and the sky that seemed to play memories on their blue depths. "What is like here in Lakeview?" He asked. "What does it have that makes you stay?" He asked, he leaned forward, his elbow on his knee, and his hand propping up his head, staring clearly at her. He found that she was extremely beautiful. She could be anywhere. A model in New York, even if she was short. Drawing in Paris. Skiing in Vancouver. Yet, she'd picked to stay here. Something about it must keep her grounded.
Something other than family. Either that it had something. If it be familiarity, a place, a person. He noted no gold ring on her left hand, so he could easily flirt and pursue her, which he found the thought intriguing. He liked her. She seemed so interesting. Unlike most women he'd met, they were either shy and innocent, or loud and boisterous. Yet, this American seemed to hold a quality to her that Sasha just enjoyed. Even if she was a bit sarcastic, Sasha saw she had other things to her. A life to her. A glow.

Ohhh I just had an idea. What if the serial killer is and ex-boyfriend?
- - -
Rose liked his laugh. That was the first thought that came to mind when he finished telling her about his childhood, and what it had been like for him back in Russia. It was a warm and deep laugh, the kind that just made you want to smile and join in. And she did, laugh a little that is, the lighter musical lilt of her own laughter joining in with Sasha's to create a beautiful mixture of sounds. "That seems.. well sort of great." she didn't seem to notice his rush to move the focus off of the topic. "You must miss them a lot." she murmured thoughtfully as she tried to picture the mountains and rivers, compared to the one lake and rolling hills they had here.
Rolling from her sitting position to lay on her back allowed Rose a few seconds to think of the answer to Sasha's latest question. She never could sit still for very long, and it gave her time to think of something she'd never really thought of before. She always complained about never getting to go anywhere, but thinking about the why made her realize that nothing had ever really stopped her. "I guess... I guess I stay because I've never really had a good enough reason to go anywhere else." she paused for a moment to glance up and behind her slightly to meet Sasha's eyes as her head was laying closest to his lap now. "You know?" A sudden smile appeared on her face, "Besides, living in a small town like this where not a lot happens just makes the new things seem even more exciting." she said, playfully winking at him and instantly lightening the mood.
She fell silent after that, glancing away from his face as she thought of the other thing that kept her here. Her father, and old frail man who'd died only a couple of years ago, and the memory of him here at the lake and everywhere else in town she went. Rose didn't tell Sasha this though, everyone needed a few secrets. Her odd quietness was quickly forgotten though as she rolled once again, this time onto her stomach, resting her cheek on the palm of her hand as she eyed Sasha. "And what's Lakeview like?" a mischievous little grin appeared on her face as she spoke, "Hmm, come swimming with me and I'll tell you."

Ooh, I like that. And he seems really put together and good, but he kills young women that look like Rose, because she's the one that got away?
--
Sasha looked away, slightly at her missing them comment. He did miss them. Pasha and Maria and Sanja and his mom and his dad. He thought about something else. Her laugh. How melodic and beautiful it sounded, opposite of his own laugh. It was kind of obnoxious in his opinion and Pasha always made fun of it, but he figured Pasha liked it, because he'd always tickle Sasha to get more laughter out of him. "You're too serious," Pasha would say before wiggling his fingers over his ribs. Sasha chuckled at the memory. His thoughts were snapped by her voice, her answer. He grinned.
"Yeah, I know exactly what you mean," he said, and then he laughed, leaning back and laying in the grass. He smiled. New and exciting. He smiled at the thought. He hadn't had a good reason for leaving. It was a lame excuse. A cowardly move, and one he sometimes regretted, but he didn't tell Rose this. Again, everyone needs secrets. He didn't really notice her silence. He sat up quickly at her words, almost startled, slightly panicked. He quickly composed himself and swallowed. "That isn't such a good idea, I, um, can't swim." Sasha said, lying. He could swim, not well, but that didn't matter.
He was a shit liar. Something his family always teased him about. He had such an honest face and eyes. So he looked away from her, scooting his knees so he was loosely holding them with his elbows on the sides of his knees in a kind of defensive spot. He rolled his lips together. "I don't think I want to know that bad," he teased, but his voice was slightly flat. He had secrets, physical ones, ones that showed. Scars curled in secrets. Marks showing a map of the past few years. He swallowed tightly, covering his fingers with the sleeves of his hoodie as a cool wind blew around them, rattling the leaves.

Rose didn't think his laugh was obnoxious at all, she thought it was pretty smexy c; Anyways.
She smiled at what he said, glad to know her excuse for not leaving hadn't sounded completely stupid. And as she mentioned the idea of swimming she was sure he'd say yes, so the smile remained. That is of course until he suddenly sat up and said he couldn't swim, the words such an obvious lie that she wasn't sure if she should feel sorry for him because of the fact that he was a very bad liar and would never be able to get away with anything, or you know the more normal response of feeling hurt and slightly betrayed. With anyone she knew, and didn't like as much as she was getting to like Sasha, she would have laughed and told them they should take lessons on lying, probably even say she'd teach them. Not to say that she lied a lot, but when she needed to, say like back in high school, it was a skill easily called upon. So you can imagine even her own surprise when her chest tightened and she had to swallow around the lump in her throat.
She sat up slowly herself, the carefree smile now traded for the slightest of frowns. The funny thing was that she wasn't even mad that he'd lied, she was just sad at the why. The only reason she could think of a boy not wanting to swim with her, considering she'd be half naked, was that they weren't interested. Him looking away only seemed to confirm her thoughts, even though that's not what Sasha was thinking at all. Perhaps she was more confident and sarcastic then other girls, but deep down she still had her own insecurities. She glanced up at him with her swirling blue and green irises as he attempted a tease that only fell flat, making her feel worse. "Yea, you're probably right. There's not much to tell anyway."
The sun was mostly covered by clouds now, making their little shaded area even cooler then it had been, the wind making it almost cold and causing Rose to shiver a bit through her thin tank top. "Well I guess we should get going, you probably have better things to do anyways." she said, standing without waiting for a response. She glanced up at the sky and bit the inside of her cheek as she tried to distract herself from the crushing blow to her ego before slowly looking back down at Sasha. She really just wanted to get home already so she could eat ice cream and cry like a baby.

Sasha looked at her, seeing her frown and looking slightly hurt. He felt his cheeks turn a bit red. He really didn't want to admit he was insecure about himself. It was the truth, just why was the reason. He heard her failed attempt at a tease and sighed. "Rose," he said, looking up at her. He looked torn. Between just letting her walk off, or let her closer to him. He took a deep breath. He never took risks. He was always such a shy child. He looked up to the sky, debating on what to actually tell her.
"I'm a shit liar, and I can swim. Not well, but I can stay alive in the water if I have to." He looked back to her. "It's just, I," He faltered. "It isn't that the thought of swimming with you isn't an awesome idea, I just, I'm not comfortable with my body," he said, voice soft. He looked down away from her, sighing gently. "And I know it's really silly, because I'm physically fit, I just, I was in an accident and um, I have scars and burn marks everywhere." He said quietly. He looked away.
A little over a year and a half ago, he was in a fire. A horrible one. And he blamed himself. Even if it wasn't his fault. He didn't talk about, not even with a therapist. Not even with Pasha who was hurt worse than he was. He closed his eyes, waiting for her to just leave. To scoff, or make a sarcastic remark. He bit his lip, shivering slightly as the wind blew at him, but it wasn't the cool breeze that caused him to shudder.

She'd been so stupid. To think the new hot Russian guy would actually like a tom boy like herself. He'd probably already met a dozen other girls on his first week in Lakeview that were more girly and clearly more his type. Her name falling from his lips brought her back from her scattered thoughts, her light eyes focusing and meeting his darker ones as she waited for him to say bye and dismiss her, or something of the sort. What he said instead surprised her enough to quickly sit down again in front of him on the soft grass.
Rose opened her mouth once to probably let out a sarcastic comment on how in the world he couldn't be comfortable with a body like that, but Sasha thankfully went on and explained before she could. "That.. that's why? Not because I'm..." she trailed off before finishing, not sure how she would end that sentence anyways, maybe with something like 'not good enough'. She couldn't help but feel sort of silly now, and selfish. There she was worried all about herself and how Sasha didn't want to go swimming because of her, when in reality it should've been about him and his accident.
"That's awful. Not the scars and burn marks! Just the accident I mean. I'm glad your safe, I mean I don't even know you that well but I guess it's just a good thing your alive and-" her rambling came to a sudden halt as a rush of air escaped from her lips, "Sorry, I um, talk a lot sometimes." Rose looked up to see he had closed his eyes and without taking a moment to think, reached up and leaned over his lap to press her small hand to his cheek. "Hey it's ok." she murmured softly, "You don't have to worry about it anymore..."

Sasha heard her sputter slightly, trying to figure things out. He didn't say anything, and didn't look up, until her fingers, warm and soft gently touched his cheek. He looked up, dark eyes soft. His lips curved into a soft smile. "Thanks." He looked out over the water and took a deep breath. "So, you still not gonna tell me what this place is all about?" He joked, his original smile returning.
He found his thoughts a bit scattered. He wondered what Pasha would think of Rose. Probably woo her before he could. Pasha would love this place. All country and warmth, all beautiful natural colors. He smiled slightly, his eyes softening at the thought. He looked over to Rose. He really hoped they could become friends. She was so much more interesting, so pretty too. He liked looking at her, and surprise surprise, she had a brain in her head too. Thank god. Even if she rambled a bit, was overly curious, but she was sweet to. He could see it in her eyes.

Rose could get lost in those dark eyes of his, but before she allowed herself to do just that, she pulled back, pulling her knees close to her chest and then wrapping her arms around them. "No problem." she replied softly, her pink lips tilting towards the smallest of smiles. It wasn't often that a full blown smile could be seen on Rose's face, they usually stayed pretty hidden unless coaxed. "Hmm I don't know... maybe it would be just more fun to show you?" she asked, glad that the earlier mood of jokes and laughter had returned.
"I mean the lake is one thing but there's also great food here you have to try. There's a good pizza shop... and the frozen yogurt! There's this really great spot that sells the best in the world." her blue and green flecked eyes seemed to brighten at the idea of the frozen treat. "But I mean if you're not that hungry there's also a library or I don't know bowling?" she offered, remembering that he'd been reading a book earlier and thinking maybe he'd rather do something like that.

Sasha found his smile grow. He paused, pretending to think about it. "Hmm, I do like pizza and frozen yogurt." He said, his grin finally breaking free. "Is it far from here?" He asked, tilting his head slightly. He had his truck if they needed to drive. He'd have to stop by his house and grab his wallet and throw on a shirt, since the summer warmth was growing in the air. He broke away from his thoughts, glancing at her. Her eyes were glittering. As the sun moved across the sky it slanted down onto her face, her eyes glittering like jewels.
His phone dinged in his bag and he broke eye contact to reach into it. A text from Pasha. He opened it quickly. Эй Саша It said and he smiled, slightly, but clicked it on lock and slid it back into his bag, glancing back to her. "Could we walk to this wonderful frozen yogurt place, or do we need to drive?" He added, tilting his head.

Rose didn't realize she was holding her breath as Sasha made her wait for an answer until he finally said that he did like pizza and frozen yogurt. She pushed at his arm playfully, a small smile lighting up her features, "You had me worried there for a while. And no, we can easily walk there if you want." she said thoughtfully, falling silent as he caught her eyes. The moment was soon ruined though when a buzz came from his phone and he glanced away to check it.
She watched him smile as he read it, wondering who it could be that would cause him joy and before she knew it the question was slipping from her lips, "Who was it?" she asked as he put the phone back into the bag, instantly wishing her nosy self would be quiet for once. It was probably his mom anyways, or maybe a friend back from Russia.. possibly even a girlfriend. Not that it really matter. At least that's what she attempted telling herself.

Sasha laughed as she gently shoved him. He looked up, still grinning, either from the text or from her, he didn't know. He pulled out his phone. "My best friend; Pasha." He said. He figured he might as well show her. Like his name; Sasha, she would probably assume it was a girl. But oh no, Pasha was far from that. He flipped to a picture before the accident, one of them standing, arms looped around each others shoulders on the ice of a pond. Sasha was on the left, grinning like a mad man, while Pasha had a quiet, more smug smile. He was shorter than Sasha, his eyes darker and his hair shorter, but no doubt he was very handsome.
He let her look for a moment before putting it back into his bag. He rose. "Alright, I just need to stop by my house and grab my wallet." He said, holding out a hand to help her up. He gave her a small smile.
