Jaxxon flashed a beaming smile at the person who congratulated her and Devin, easily able to hide her fury. Jaxxon had become a good actress in the several weeks since her first forced meeting with Devin; she'd learned to school her reactions and facial expressions. Her arm was curled around Devin, her fiancé. Joy. Just what she bloody well wanted. In truth, she wanted to go drink and forget any of this was happening. She thanked the woman, still smiling. In Jaxxon's mind, she was still wondering when this party was going to be done. This stupid-ass party was bothering her, but whatever, she could deal with it for now. Jaxxon's mom, Leah, shot her a knowing look. Ugh. Great. Someone asked when the wedding would be and Jaxxon responded with the typical "a few months I'd say. I'm so excited!" and followed it up with a beaming smile.

Devin flashed each and everyone a charming smile, but saved the best for last; on Leah. "This is insane. I can't believe their doing this....do you have a plan B?" He leaned down to whisper the words in her ear, swivelling their bodies away from the other guests. Only then did his lips pucker out in a frown and his eyebrows furrow worriedly. His eyes slid to meet Leah's again, before quickly flickering away. "Their being selfish!" He complained once more.

"Of course they are," Jaxxon responded. "They're rich and they're powerful and they want to make sure they keep their power. What better way than a political marriage that reinforces both of those things?" Jaxxon flicked her brown gaze around, knowing Leah was watching them intently. "You'd best school your expression again, bud; my mom is watching again. She's getting suspicious, though I guess I can't blame her. Two young adults being forced into marriage and those two young adults accepting it blindly? Yeah, no."

Devin nodded, casting a glance at Leah. "I know." He muttered, glancing back at Jaxxon. "So, do you have a Plan B?" He asked again, only loud enough forher own ears. As more approached the 'happy' couple, Devin fixed a charming smile and shook their hands with a free hand. He answered whatever questions that they had for him, and remained quite while they asked Jaxxon instead.

"Working on it," Jaxxon responded, turning another beaming smile at the people who approached. She easily answered questions about the upcoming wedding and he hopes for the future - most of the answers lies, of course, since she had no intention to actually marry Devin - and the partygoers 'oooed' and 'awwwed' appropriately after the bride-to-be's answers.

"Okay..." Devin responded softly, finally separating himself from Jaxxon. "I'll be back, I need to go and take care of a few things. I need to make sure if the food has been set out already." He offered Jaxxon a bright smile and slipped off to check on the food. After making sure everything was settled and people were happy, he excused himself to a private corner. Out of sight, he sat down heavily and rested his head on his hands. His sides heaved in a frustrated sigh. He wasn't worried about being found moping/getting frustrated, because this was a rather private corner.

Jaxxon mingled like the good socialite, though she found herself growing increasingly bored with each passing minute. Ugh. She cut her gaze to Devin for a moment, narrowing her eyes when she noticed that he was moping. What the heck? Was he trying to blow their cover? For God's sake, she didn't want to be in this situation either, but she wasn't crying or moping about it. He needed to suck it up and focus on getting out of this situation.

Devin sat up, gaze traveling over to Jaxxon. He wasn't....moping...per say. He was just frustrated and upset about planning this stupid party, and then having to deal with this stupid plan. He studied her for a brief moment before he rested his head in his hands again. A few minutes passed before he straightened up to a standing position. He flicked a piece of hair away from his face, and then mingled back Intl the crowd.

A rather attractive young man sauntered up to Jaxxon, grabbing her attention. Hm. He was nice-looking, sure. He introduced himself, flirting shamelessly, as "Girion." Jaxxon greeted him and the two dove directly into an interesting conversation about - of all things - money and power. Jaxxon found that their viewpoints were actually pretty similar, and this Girion was highly intelligent and able to put words to his ideas.
