Ryan felt a bit angry at himself. It was stupid to try to be friends with her. He loved her too much. Obviously. He kicked the bed, letting out a groan. He picked up the picture on the end of it and crumpled it. It would be best if he didn't try to be friends with her. She was going to marry Jason. And he was going to take pictures of the seemingly happy couple. He picked up the black box on his desk, flipping it open. The small, sparkling diamond glittered in the faint light. "And I thought it was going well," a sarcastic tone cut through the air and Ryan snapped the box closed. He turned to face Steven, who was leaning against the door frame. Ryan glared and Steven shrugged. "What? I heard banging, I thought I was finally going to be the one who had to put up with sex noises," and Ryan shook his head. "She's engaged Steven, to some extremely rich and powerful man." Steven went a little pale and walked over. "Come on, buddy." and Steven put his arms around Ryan, hugging him tight. "Come on," and Ryan reluctantly hugged his best friend back. "You'll be fine, okay?" Ryan shook his head, clutching to Steven. It reminded him of so many other times when they'd 'man-hugged'. Steven pulled back. "Okay? You've made it through hell, what we need is to go out and get you laid." Ryan rolled his eyes. "You deserve to celebrate, and I am the best wingman." Steven wiggled his eyebrows and Ryan groaned. "Maybe you need to try your luck with guys," Ryan shook his head. "Okay, maybe older women." Ryan scoffed. "Cougars? Really?" Steven laughed and slid away from him. "Okay, okay. Just wait a bit, all is not lost." Steven said, throwing an arm around his best friends neck. "Let's watch Best Ink and drink a beer, ay?" Ryan just nodded, allowing himself to be pulled along into their living room.
[ Okie dokie. I feel like Steven should be really hostile towards her. And like almost not let her in. ]

alyssa had done it. as soon as she left ryans she had headed back to the penthouse suite at.the hotel where she had.been staying with jason and his family and the million other people planning what was meant to be the wedding of the century. finding jason hadnt been hard. but telling him the truth had been. he went through stages. confused, frustrated,.angry,.then eventually defeated. he insisted she keep the ring as a reminder of their time together and that if she changed her mind and realized this was all just cold feet,.to come back to him.but as.alyssa finished loading all her luggage into the back of a bright yellow taxi she knew for sure. it wasnt cold feet,.she just didnt love him enough. so for.almost.a week.she wandered staying for nights with friends.untill she felt ready. and so, six days later dressed in a black down feather coat, jeans, a grey knit top,.a blue.wool scarf,.with dark circles under those gorgeous blue eyes and her golden locks a complete mess,.alyssa.showed.up at ryans door. for a moment she thought about turning back. running away. what if he hated her for not explaining herself the other day?but when you loved.someone you took risks. so she took a deep breath and she knocked. praying someone would answer.

For the next few days, Ryan kind of moped, then went out drinking with Steven; watching his best friend get numbers from both chicks and guys. On most days, Steven made Ryan coffee and breakfast, and then left to go to his studio. Ryan tagged along sometimes, taking photos for Steven so he could continue to draw the model after they were gone from a picture rather than memory. They just did normal best friend stuff. Went to a couple parties, hung out, and eventually, Steven vented on how utterly awful Alyss was. It seemed like the best thing to do. When the door bell rang, Steven waved Ryan down. "I got it," and he moved towards the door. They had both just been lounging in sweatpants and no shirts, because that's totally normal. Steven was slightly hung over from the night before and was a bit irritated and realized how much he hated the colors of the walls, which is probably what triggered his response. He opened the door and was about to just hand the money to the pizza guy, but he paused; furrowed his brow, and promptly glared. "You better have a damn good reason to be here." Steven looked rumpled, his blonde hair disheveled and hickeys covering his neck, and a sharpness to his eyes. A few seconds later, Ryan appeared behind Steven, looking better than he did. A couple of bruises peppered his exposed muscular chest from the hockey game the other day, and he looked a bit tired, but nothing a couple hours of chilling couldn't fix. He said nothing, while his best friend seemed to stand guard in front of the door.

alyssa sighed when she saw Steven. She hadnt considered this but obviously even if Ryan wasnt totally pissed and hating her, Steven would. It was obvious how protective he was of Ryan, which she hadnt thought about when deciding to spontaneously show up out of the blue at Ryan's door. That was the trouble with a roommate. Alyssa stepped back out into the hall, trying to find the words to explain. She knew why she was here but was it a good reason? Or was she just being selfish and stupid and doing something to hurt Ryan. But no, she knew why she was here. Clearing her throat, Alyssa met Stevens gaze trying not to look intimidated " look. I get it. You probably hate me. But I didn't leave the other day because I was running back to Jason and thinking that being with Ryan was a mistake, infact as soon as I left I went to break things off. I realized I couldn't marry him, not when I was falling in love with Ryan again. So if you'll let me in I'd like a chance to fix things" she murmured, totally sincere. Hoping to give Steven some proof she held up her hand, showing there was no gaudy huge diamond on her ring finger anymore. This would have been funny if it were happening to someone else. But no. This was her life now, crazy and messed up and terrified Ryan wouldn't look her in the eyes. But that was love sometimes.

Steven still glared, eyes extremely blue and extremely pissed. He frowned at her, and then glanced back to Ryan, who wasn't looking at her. "Do you want to talk to her?" He asked, glancing back to her. "Because I'll be extremely happy to slam this door in her face," his eyes narrowed into further slits. Ryan sighed, looking up. "Yeah, let her in." Ryan turned around, venturing back into the apartment. Steven sighed heavily, and opened the door. As she entered he grabbed her arm. "You break his heart, and god," He looked furious "You have not seen a fragment of what he's been through." He then let her go and shut the door, brushing past her into the kitchen. "I'll get the vodka." He called to Ryan, vanishing. Ryan rolled his eyes, gesturing to Alyss. "Come on," he said, voice quiet. He didn't seem pissed like Steven, almost blank. He walked into his room, expecting her to follow. He grabbed a shirt from the open closet and slid it on, it sliding down his strong back. He winced as the bruises tugged. Then he folded his arms over his chest, waiting expectantly.

Alyssa was almost frightened. Steven looked....well capable of plenty of really terrible things. But Alyssa could understand why, at least try to. He loved Ryan like family. That used to be her job so she appreciated where he was coming from. But Alyssa knew she had good intentions so she hoped Ryan would call him off, even though she didn't know how to even begin explaining herself. Thankfully Steven let her in, when he grabbed her Alyssa didn't flinch but she was definitely glad when he released. She nodded, looking Steven in the eyes, he was right. When Ryan called she followed quickly, frowning in worry as her eyes brushed over the bruises. She was dying to reach out and try to find a way to fix it. But he didn't belong to her and it was likely he hated her now anyway. But that wasnt the point right now because Ryan was standing before her, arms crossed, staring, and waiting. Waiting for her to explain. Hesitantly, Alyssa spoke " I'm sorry, and that doesn't cover it all but I need you to know that. And I should've explained but I'm done with Jason I haven't seen him since the day I was here. I almost didn't come because I realize I don't deserve a chance and maybe Id just end up hurting you. But I had to. So I'm here."

Ryan wanted to be angry, to be furious like Steven. But he just sighed, and looked down, sighing again. He really couldn't get truly angry at her though. He just felt hurt, and that was worse than being angry. He looked up at her, frowning still. "Why didn't you explain that before you left?" He whispered softly. He ran a hand through his hair. He closed his eyes. "What took so long?" He added, and shook his head. He guessed this is almost what she felt like when he left her, except he didn't come back.

Alyssa had been bracing herself for Ryan to be furious, be even more pissed off then Steven...but he just sighed clearly full of mixed emotions about the situation. But she could definitely tell he was hurt, he had every right to be. He had some fair questions but Alyssa wasnt even sure she had the answers to them. In hindsight she felt like an idiot. " I guess I didn't explain because I didn't know how to. And I didn't know if I'd be back and I figured you hating me was better then keeping me in your life as a maybe. But I figured out I wanted to come back because it wasnt just that I cheated on Jason or that I didn't love him enough, it was that I still love you. And it took six days because I didn't want to walk back into your life only to leave again because you don't deserve that." She told him softly, pain clear in her striking blue eyes.

Ryan sighed softly. He understood. At least, now, he was getting an explanation. Unlike her, for five years, she wondered. When he left, she was not only heartbroken with good reason, but also left without any type of logical thought. Maybe that's why he wasn't angry, because now he understood, on some small level to understand what she went through. He moved forward slightly, hesitant, and then, without warning, cupped her face and kissed her softly. "God, I never stopped loving you, Alyss." He paused, stilling holding her face in his hands. "I know we probably can't pick up from five years ago, but we can try this, if you want to." He murmured, thumbs gently rubbing over her cheek bones, eyes earnest. They'd probably have to get Steven to stop being pissed, but small battles.

Alyssa was still on edge, what if it wasnt enough? What if Ryan didn't want to listen and sent her away? Alyssa didn't know what she'd do. He wasnt saying anything so that didn't help her nerves at all. So Alyssa just stood there in front on him, arms crossed across her chest looking at the ground, waiting and praying for him to say something. Needless to say Alyssa was totally surprise to feel his touch on her face, his lips on hers again. For a moment she was shocked but then kissed him back. It ended too soon when he pulled back to speak. She smiled listening and nodded " me either Ryan" she whispered back, relaxing back against his touch, letting her eyes close for a moment. Hearing him again she opened her eyes slowly, looking at him expectantly. " I..... I want to" Alyssa insisted shifting to rest her head against the choice. She hesitated a moment then spoke softly " but it has been five years and I think we need to try taking things slow as much as I miss everything with you, we can't go straight back. We need to go forward and if you don't want to I get it. But I need that, at least for a little while"

Ryan found himself nodding. "I agree. Start over like we don't know each other." He added, stepping back, but his fingers still found hers and tangled together with hers. "Then we have the monster of Steven to tackle. He pretty much hates you." He shrugged. "I didn't say anything, but maybe you should talk to him?" He suggested, looking a bit sheepish. His roommate and best friend could be a bitchy nightmare to anyone who dared hurt his best friend.

glad he could understand Alyssa nodded " yeah....but not totally. Because we do know each other or we used to once upon a time and that happened. I just mean I don't want to go zero to sixty and not give this a fair shot" she explained softly, squeezing his hand gently as she smiled at him. But Alyssa stopped smiling at mention of Steven " yeah.... I'll go handle that. Don't worry. I don't hate him even if he hated me. I know what it's like to be that person. " she murmured. So after pressing a quick light kiss to Ryan's lips then left the room finding her way back into the living room to stand in front of Steven who was sitting on the on the couch. " we should talk, for Ryan and also because the other day you seemed really great and if I'm going to be here I'd rather not have the guy who loves Ryan as much as I do as my enemy"

Steven had opted away from a vodka, because he wanted to hold onto his anger, since Ryan couldn't. Alyss came out to talk to him, probably because Ryan wanted her to mend things with him and she had the balls to do it (not literally because then Steven would be pissed at Ryan too) Steven looked up and flipped off the Tv gesturing for her to sit. "Look, I'm gonna be honest. Leaving you was the worst mistake Ry ever made and you rushing out should have made Ryan very angry, but it didn't and I may have over reacted, but, I don't feel too bad, because I've been close to losing him. Sure, his dad was a load of shit to him and he shared that period with him and it was both horrible and strengthening. But I doubt you ever worried that one moment you would get a call that Ryan killed himself. Either by self harm or jumping off a bridge. And you may thing that Ryan leaches off of me, but we both helped each other through struggles. I don't desire to go into mine." He paused, taking a deep breath. "But I love Ryan. He's my best friend, wingman, and a brother I never had. And I may have saved him from a long swan dive straight into insanity, but I'm never going to be the kind of person he needs for romance and intimacy. He just doesn't swing that way and he isn't my type. Which is why I'm not going to be pissed at you. But when you have a best friend who has had a shit life and when you literally saved their lives twice, I have reason to hate for a little while those who hurt him." He finished with a flourish of his hand, huffing slightly. He'd gotten a bit emotional so he quickly. Wiped his eyes and looked away for a moment.
